Legislative Package Aimed at Improving Advocacy System
1 / 2

The RA Deputy Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan informed that the legislative package providing for amendments and addenda to the Law on Advocacy and the RA Criminal Code is aimed at improving the advocacy system, which is due to the key role of advocacy in the field of ensuring and protecting human right and the imperative to improve the structures aimed at ensuring the right to receive qualified legal assistance.

According to the legislative initiative, the Government proposes to review the internal management structure of the Chamber of Advocates. It is proposed to expand the powers of the Board of Advocates, to establish regulations, through which it will be possible to form new bodies. A disciplinary commission can also be created among those bodies.

According to Grigor Minasyan, norms are being added that will ensure the political neutrality of lawyers in the governing body when they act as representatives of that body.

The Deputy Minister noted that, the package was revised as a result of the proposals received due to the interested discussions.

The NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs endorsed the package.

The National Assembly debated the legislative package on October 4.
